On Feb 26, Dr. des. Lena Schlegel received the Munich Sustainability Award by the Selbach Umweltstiftung for her doctoral dissertation "Caring for Climate Change: Reconfiguring Human-Nature Relations in Light of the Australian Black Summer. The award is granted bi-annually for outstanding dissertations at Munich universities which make a particular contribution to sustainability reseach. The dissertation explored the transformation of nature-society relations in the context of the 2019-20 Australian Bushfires. By conceptualising sustainability as care in nature-society relations, and barriers to societal transformation as 'conflicts of care', it contributes to the understanding of the societal and cultural elements of socio-ecological transformations.
