Biodiversity Knowledge in Decision-Making for Future Forests
2026
I am currently developing a research project in resonance with the Research Cluster of Excellence 'Future Forests' at the University of Freiburg. The project will explore, how biodiversity knowledge is produced, contested and negotiated in decision making processes for future forests in transformation hotspots in southeast Australia and the Black Forest. Book Project
Conflicts of Care: A Multispecies Ethnography of the Australian Black Summer
2025-2027
I am currently working on a book manuscript based on my PhD. The book features an innovative look at the conflictive dimensions of 'care' as an analytical lens for nature-society relations and offers a unique ethnographic perspective of wildfire as a multispecies experience.
PhD Project
Caring for Climate Change: Reconfiguring Human-Nature Relations in Light of the Australian Black Summer
2021-2025
In my award-winning dissertation, I explored nature-society relations in the aftermath of the Australian Black Summer. In particular, I analysed conflicting notions of care for other species and the environment in the bushfire recovery in East Gippsland. The PhD was partly funded by the Heinrich Böll Foundation and conducted at the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society.
