DGS Congress: Futures of Society
Last week, I attended the German Sociological Foundation's biannual congress - this year under the topic "Futures of Society". It was a fantastically rich and diverse set of panels, sessions and discussions. In particular, I enjoyed the discussion of our ad-hoc group on the topic "beyond sustainability: futures of socio-ecological justice", convened by Maria Backhouse, Dennis Eversberg, Matthias Schmelzer and Bernd Sommer. Based on my research in wildifre-affected communities

4. Sociological Forest Symposium
On 08.-09.10.2026, the 4th German symposium for social scientists working on forests took place in Frankfurt am Main. It was a rich and diverse couple of days of pitches and shared discussion. Among other things, we discussed care and conflicts in forests and - with my new team from the Cluster of Excellence Future Forests - the complexity of decision-making for future forests. More info and the programme can be found here: Images to follow!

Munich 2051 Climate Conference
In September 2021, I attended the 2051 Munich Climate Conference, an arts-science collaboration organised by Bureau Grandezza and hosted at Bellevue di Monaco in Munich. Beyond your usual academic conference, it was a unique thought experiment prompting researchers to imagine their research as it might be perceived in 2051 - and the world we might live in by then - accompanied by immersive multimodal experiences. Will it be a utopian or dystopian future? How might it have bee

New Article: Anthropocentrism in Crisis
In our new article, we argue that anthropocentric perspectives are not sufficient to address socio-ecological crises because they themselves are part of a crisis-ridden system of environment-society relations. Hence, merely expanding the moral-philosophical concept of anthropocentrism is problematic. We suggest that a non-anthropocentric, intersectional perspectives offer a more nuanced account of problematic nature-society relations and their transformation. https://www.inge
